Don’t let the smiles fool you. We take your fitness seriously.
Twenty-year Wilmington residents, Ron and Katharine Hesmer founded SHAPE Fitness Group in 2010. SHAPE’s meager beginning (500 square foot personal training studio) has since grown to a 3,000 square foot state-of-the-art facility employing six of the best personal trainers in the Wilmington area. With the success of their training business, the Hesmers expanded their services to include group fitness, as well as a unique mobile gym concept called SHAPE2GO that delivers exercise classes to local parks, neighborhoods and businesses. The Hesmers are firm believers in offering a supportive and motivating environment for the SHAPE staff and their clients. With a “hands-on” attention to detail, you’ll be sure to see the Hesmers on premises whenever you frequent SHAPE…followed closely by their loveable dog “Steve” and his bevy of adoring fans.
MEET WILMINGTON’S BEST PERSONAL TRAINERS
Kelly Campbell | CPT
Kelly admits that she was a “late bloomer” in realizing her passion for health and fitness. While she competed in sports in high school and college, she finished every workout with a huge meal and says that she never understood how to use food as “fuel” for the body. Even though she was active, she still struggled with the scale and with poor body image. When she started a family and pursued her career as a Clinical Social Worker, workouts immediately took a back seat in her busy life. Shortly after her third child was born, her life changed even more as she watched a very close friend battle breast cancer at the age of 35. Thankfully, her friend beat the disease and set her own goal to run a 5k in celebration. Kelly agreed to do this with her, even though she always despised running and had never even run a single mile. After a little bit of training, they ran (jogged) the entire distance without stopping. This milestone lit a fire. After witnessing how the body can go from such a state of weakness and defeat to one of strength and perseverance, she also saw how important coaching and support is in that journey. She now views life through a different lens and believes that having our health is paramount to every other aspect of our lives. She began to set goals for running a half marathon, then several full marathons, then triathlons and recently completed her first Spartan race. She also became certified in Les Mills Body Attack, Spin, Yoga, Group Fitness, and eventually as a Certified Personal Trainer. Kelly loves to develop creative strategies for improving functional fitness that will carry her clients through every stage of life.

“Kelly Campbell is the absolute best trainer! I have been working out with her for over five years. I’ve taken group classes with her at spin and have had many private sessions as well. Kelly knows when to push and when to pull back. She is energetic, knowledgeable, and experienced. My sessions with her are both challenging and fun. Kelly is the best!”— Jill M.

Fonda Dickens | CPT
My name is Fonda Dickens, and I enjoy encouraging clients to meet their fitness goals. I have a huge belief that “mind over matter” is a great philosophy when it comes to physical fitness. I love watching people surprise themselves with their abilities that they once felt were unreachable. Many of these same roadblocks intimidated me for years. As a busy mother, I found that I easily neglected myself and would say that I’d “get to it tomorrow”. These days went on for the first few years of motherhood and then I slowly realized I was missing something. Once I discovered personal training and group fitness and began reaching my new fitness goals, I quickly became addicted. I realized I was less stressed and a better mother when I had consistent workout time. I also wanted to be fit for my children so that I could play with and keep up with them, and have the energy to enjoy them. Ultimately, I knew my health was an important obligation I owed to my family. I believe a healthy lifestyle is a positive habit that can be created for anyone with the right support, mindset and motivation. When training, I like to incorporate the whole body approach. I enjoy mixing cardio, resistance training and functional training with plyometrics to give the best possible results. I am certified in Body Pump by Les Mills, TRX, Group Fitness, CPR and am a Certified Personal Trainer.

Aimee Flint | CPT
My name is Aimee Flint and I am a Wilmington NC native. I am also a …
Wife. Dog lover. Obstacle course racer. Endurance athlete. Foodie. Coffee addict.
Director of Operations for a Grammy-nominated group: The Foreign Exchange
I would consider myself a strong woman as well as one of the sons my father never had; I was raised to work hard and stay open-minded to new challenges because you won’t know if you like something unless you try it. One challenge I decided to try in late 2012 was to take control of my self-appearance once and for all. Through the years, I have had several fluctuations in my weight during my late teens into my twenties and then my thirties, each instance losing the weight then through time gaining it back. My main problem could easily be described as “lack of consistency”. I played sports growing up, but nothing long term, so I would never describe myself as a fit or athletic person. That was only the girl I “wanted” to see in the mirror until I finally started to listen. A friend of mine kept talking about this class that “oh you have to try it, it’s the best ever, great workout, etc”, and I made the choice to go. From that moment forward, it has been referenced as my Day One, because every day after Day One is a day further away from when you started — and I know I never want to go back to Day One. Through classes like Power Pilates, TRX, and personal training, I truly learned to love being better, working smarter not harder, and pushing beyond my own mental limitations. I also learned how infectious my determination could be for others and I would easily say this is what got me started as an instructor. My first certification course, Power Pilates, was in September of 2013, I taught my first official class on my birthday the following year and I haven’t looked back since.
While all of this was going on, I decided to try something I’d always wanted to do, a mud run. From the very first obstacle, I knew in my heart this was my place; 3 years later I have run a number of local races including the Step Up For Soldiers Combat Run, multiple Spartan Races, Tough Mudders [including their crowning 24-hour event, World’s Toughest Mudder in Lake Las Vegas NV (24:42 on the course, 45 miles completed)] and appeared on NBC’s Spartan: Ultimate Team Challenge (summer 2016).
As an instructor, I hope I can help you find the mind-body connection through form, feel & breath and to develop not just your physical strength but also your mental grit & willpower.

Katie Macik | CPT
Katie is a Certified Personal Trainer through the American Council on Exercise (ACE). She received her BA in Recreation, Sports Leadership and Tourism Management from the University of North Carolina Wilmington.
After studying medical tourism abroad and witnessing the effects of chronic illness on one’s physical and mental well-being, Katie embraced the philosophy: “Be proactive.” That philosophy is continually reinforced by the positive (mental and physical) results that a fitness regimen affords her clients. Her passion lies in working with individuals who are new to the gym and want/need a fresh (re)start in exercise. And with an enthusiastic focus on positive self-image, Katie would love to offer her guidance and encouragement for a happier and healthier you.
When Katie’s not shaping physiques, she can be seen thrashing her opponents on the local beach volleyball circuit.
